The Denbighshire Homelessness Early Intervention Project

Why are we doing this?

Hello. Can you help us to tackle homelessness earlier?

What is homelessness?

Homelessness means not having a safe place to live. This can include living in unsuitable accommodation, ‘sofa-surfing’ (staying in someone's home unofficially) and sleeping rough (sleeping outside)

Who is at risk of homelessness?

Becoming homeless can happen to anyone, and it is nothing to be ashamed of. Reasons people may be at risk of becoming homeless can include (but are not limited to):

  • Landlords giving eviction notices (which may not be the fault of the tenant)
  • Relationship breakdowns
  • Domestic abuse
  • Accommodation becoming unaffordable, for example due to:
    • Rent/mortgage increases
    • A reduction or loss in household income (money coming in is less than money going out)

What do we want to know?

Here at Denbighshire County Council, we would like to improve how we approach 'early intervention' This means improving the way we identify risks of homelessness and we help people much earlier on, so that there is less risk of them actually becoming homeless.

We think this project will include identifying people who may currently be at risk of homelessness and offering guidance and support, as well as raising awareness and educating people about homelessness in key settings such as schools.

We would like to know what you think our approach should be for this project. We welcome everyone's feedback, and we are particularly interested to hear from you if:

  • You are currently, or have ever been homeless
  • If you believe you have been at risk of homelessness (whether or not you became homeless)
  • If you have experience of supporting people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless
