Improving access in and around Rhyl Town Centre

Why are we doing this?

We've been exploring ways to improve how traffic and people move around Rhyl Town Centre.

In particular we've been looking at the existing issues which include:

- The current system was designed for the past when there were heavier east/west flows along the A548 Coast Road
- Long queues from the South (A525 Vale Road, and the A55) at peak times
- A limited number of crossings over the railway line
- Poor directional signage
- Difficulty accessing parking because of indirect routes around the one-way system.
- The number of traffic lights
- Extra traffic due to motorists 'searching for spaces'
- East and West Parade forms a 'barrier' between top of High Street and the beach
- Better connections are needed ebtween the town and National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 5 that runs along the promenade

The work we have undertaken has resulted in the following solution:
- High street to be two-way between Brighton Road and Wellington Road
- Remove the High Street pedestrian zone allowing one-way northbound traffic between Wellington Road and East/West Parade

This would:
- Halve existing journey times between Vale Road bridge and the Promenade
- Cut in half journey times between Vale Road bridge and Morley Road car park
- Shorten Saturday afternoon queues on Vale Road bridge to less than half their current length
- Make it easier and quicker to get around Rhyl Town Centre
