Consultation on the Council's Gambling Statement of Principles

What is the Statement of Principles?

The policy statement relates to the licensing of betting shops, bingo halls, amusement arcades, etc. In particular, the policy statement is intended to guide decision makers, applicants, objectors and others regarding the decision making process.

The policy statement outlines how the Licensing Authority will consider and determine applications under the Gambling Act 2005. It also states how the Authority will work to fulfil the three licensing objectives, which are:

  • preventing gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder, or being used to support crime;
  • ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way; and
  • protecting children and other vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling

Why are we consulting?

The Gambling Act 2005 requires all local authorities to have in place a Statement of Principles, which must be reviewed and consulted upon at least every three years. The current Denbighshire County Council policy statement has been in place since 2019 and has now been reviewed, minor changes have only been proposed.
