School Nutrition Project

This project will help us to deliver our Corporate Plan priority around Young People, where we aim for Denbighshire to be a place where younger people will want to live and work and have the skills to do so. You can read more about our Corporate Plan 2017-22 by clicking here.

What will the School Nutrition Project project help us to achieve?

The main aims of the School Nutrition Project project are to:

• An understanding of the importance of a balanced diet, and its impact on their health and well-being (including emotional well-being).
• The confidence to make healthy food choices.
• The skills to plan, budget and cook a meal to support their well-being.
• An awareness of career opportunities.

What are we proposing to help us achieve our aims?

We are proposing:

• Through our School Nutrition Coordinator to develop a nutrition programme for schools.
• Train a member of the school staff and the school catering team in primary and secondary schools to deliver a programme that covers:
  • Healthy eating messages
  • Cooking and budgetary skills
