Graig Road/Lower Denbigh Road - Road Safety Review

Why are we doing this?

In conjunction with Welsh Government and North Wales Police, Denbighshire County Council is conducting a road safety review on the route between St Asaph and Denbigh that comprises Lower Denbigh Road (B5381) and Graig Road.

Following a public drop-in session on 14th August in our Caledfryn offices in Denbigh, we are now inviting online feedback.

Please use the feedback form linked below to share your experiences of driving the route and include details of any near misses or collisions that you have witnessed or been involved in and any other issues that you feel are relevant.

What we found out

What difference has it made?

The collision review identified three collision cluster sites on Lower Denbigh Road between St Asaph and Denbigh. Elwy Meadows, S-bends and Plas Chambres junction are the three sites and are where the works are to be undertaken this financial year.

Elwy Meadows: Double white lines were introduced to prevent unsafe passing manoeuvres. New advisory speed limit signs and red backed ARAF/SLOW paint on the carriageway are to be introduced on either side of the bend.

S-Bends: A 40mph limit was introduced through the section. Further measures are being investigated here with some of the options including tree felling to limit debris on road and increase capability to dry, new anti-skid surfacing, new chevrons and new vehicle restraint barriers.

Plas Chambres junction: The 40mph limit from Denbigh will be extended until approximately 250m north of the Plas Chambres junction. New warning signage will be installed in vicinity of junction. The junction at Plas Chambres farm will be modified; visibility will be increased at the junction by slightly widening existing carriageway, moving obstacles and install fencing to new alignment.
